What is BIMI

BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is an email protocol that enables you to include your brand's logo on authenticated emails sent from your domain. The authenticity of the brand logo and ownership is confirmed through a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC), providing receivers with assurance that the displayed logo is genuine.

You can check the mailbox provider list that supports BIMI here. If it is supported by your mailbox provider, your brand logo will appear beside your email in the receiver's inbox.

How it helps

Enhanced Brand Visibility: BIMI enables the display of a brand’s logo or brand icon next to your email in recipients’ inboxes. This logo provides instant brand recognition, making legitimate emails more trustworthy and recognizable to recipients.
Increased Trust: The presence of a brand logo in email inboxes adds an extra layer of trust. It signals to recipients that the sender’s identity has been authenticated, reducing the likelihood of email fraud and impersonation.
Reduced Phishing and Spoofing: BIMI helps in reducing phishing and email spoofing attacks. When recipients see the brand’s logo alongside an email, they are more likely to trust that the message is legitimate, making it harder for malicious actors to impersonate trusted brands.
Consistent Branding: BIMI ensures that your brand’s logo is displayed consistently in the email inboxes of your recipients. This helps in maintaining a strong and uniform brand image.
Increased Click-Through Rates: Trustworthy and recognizable emails are more likely to be opened and acted upon by recipients, leading to improved click-through rates and engagement with your email marketing campaigns.

What are the prerequisites for implementing BIMI

Implement a DMARC policy with a p=quarantine or p=reject setting for your domain.
Set up SPF records for your domain.
Implement DKIM to sign outgoing emails with a cryptographic signature.
Ensure that your domain has a valid SSL certificate.
Create a BIMI-compliant logo adhering to SVG format that meets the BIMI Group’s logo requirements:
The logo should be a square image with centered display
The logo should have a solid background color
The logo size should not exceed 32 KB

Register your brand logo as a trademark and apply for VMC. This is required if you want to display your logo in Gmail.

How to implement BIMI

After completing all the prerequisites, create your BIMI record.
In your domain’s DNS settings, create a BIMI DNS record that points to the location of your BIMI logo on your web server.
